On 22 October 2020, a first working group meeting was held to discuss international cooperation in the Senegal-Mauritanian Aquifer Basin (SMAB). During this meeting, several deliverables were prepared by the partners with the objective of assessing the capacity, weaknesses and state of (ground)water management and international cooperation in the four member states.
This year marks the United Nations’ and UNESCO’s 75th anniversary and in honour of this, the national UNESCO commission of the Netherlands is organising a one-week celebration. From 19 to 24 October 2020, many UNESCO organisations and heritage sites in the Netherlands will be illuminated in the UN’s trademark blue colour and all UN / UNESCO affiliated organisations based in this country will raise awareness about the crucial work that has been done under the UN flag over the past 75 years.
At the beginning of this month, Alexia Calvel joined IGRAC as Researcher. She has already been part of the team as an intern for three months and will now be involved in activities related to WHYMAP and Groundwater for Refugees. Time for an interview to get to know this member of the IGRAC team.
