Groundwater in SADC Integrated Water Resources Management Initiative

At the invitation of organizing committee, IGRAC has participated in workshop on "Groundwater in SADC IWRM Initiative". The workshop was organised by the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the African Ministers' Council on Water (AMCOW), the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) and the University  of Western Cape UNESCO Chair in Geohydrology.

The workshop aimed to identified and assess the blockages to sustainable utilization of groundwater resources and to best practices for its management in SADC. The workshop was attended by 48 participates including representatives from SADC states ministries, river basin organization, private sector, NGO, academia and invited international experts. IGRAC presented an update of the ISARM-SADC initiative and highlighted the main challenges for information sharing on transboundary aquifers in the region.
