WMO Global Conference in Geneva, Switzerland

Event Date
-

From 7 to 9 May 2018, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO OMM) will organise a global conference on  “Prosperity through Hydrological Services” and IGRAC has been invited to contribute to this meeting as well.

Water is at the center of environmental sustainability, economic resilience, social cohesion and physical security. Hydrological services, including water monitoring and assessments, design of water-related structures, as well as flood forecasts and warnings are fundamental to the management of water. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), as the United Nations system’s authoritative voice on Climate, Weather and Water – is joining with its partners around the world to address the critical need for better water resource management.

An important milestone in this process will be a Global Conference promoting prosperity through the application of improved hydrological services. The Conference is expected to catalyze collaboration among key stakeholders in international programmes and to strengthen the delivery capabilities of National Hydrological Services, through initiatives such as the WMO Global Hydrological Status and Outlook System. It is also expected to assist countries in their efforts to contribute towards the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the eleven water-related Sustainable Development Goals.
